a CAPTCHA image: several contorted words appear on a swirly blue background

News.com reports today on the CAPTCHA-porn connection, noting that Boing Boing reported it in January. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported it in October, but buried the lede. I mentioned the porn angle two days later. Then I wrote a big boring academic paper in which I tried to mention demeurely that it’s been exploited while pointing out that CAPTCHA is by its nature completely inaccessible. (News.com reported that too.)

Welcome to the goddamn fucking party, people. The world does not stop at Boing Boing.

Okay. Cranky time is over now. Anybody who needs quotes on how broken CAPTCHA is can now drop me a line at mcmay at w3 dot org. k? Love you. Mean it.
